Not a fan of the boxes as they were how I got it so that will all change however whoever made the kicks did a really good job and those will stay..

6x9's on the wheel hump and there is some in the side panels.. The box is just a square box behind the seat..

Here are the best pic of the kicks that I have..

Re: Lets seee your custom stereos for your K5 Blazers ........

I am interested in upgrading the stereo in my 73 Blazer. I was using the search and found this thread a little disappointed that there are not more posts.

I just bought my Blazer 3 days ago, there is a stereo in it. It is an old upgraded post style. I have not found the speakers yet and there is not sound. I assume the only speaker is the dash speaker and that is covered by a dash mat.

I will be reading through your thread Bowtieguy. Thanks!!

Re: Lets seee your custom stereos for your K5 Blazers ........

I can help a little with stereo installs. I've probably done 8 complete installs from scratch and modified 10 more. so not professional but I know my ohms from my watts.

Most recent project was fixing the system in my newly purchased 89 K5.
PO had decent deck with 6" rounds in the front kick panels, two 6x9's in the bed sides in front of the rear seats and a Sony Xplode amp on each side of the rear bedside.

Amps in the back looked cool but were not electronically efficient.

I installed a full cage which put a bar right in front of where his crappy speakers were. They are called kick panels because they get kicked.... Not a fan of that location. So I put the front 6.5" speakers in the doors. This is freaking tricky when you're working with power windows because the motor bracket want's to occupy the same location as the speaker magnet.

So my setup consists of a Kenwood deck, can't remember but it is newer and has bluetooth so no cd's bounce around my back seat anymore. Then there is a Kenwood XR-5S 5 channel digital amplifier. It is tiny but puts out big sound. Not as clear or precise as the older A/B style analogue amplifiers but for the size you can't beat it. Then I've got four Kenwood 6.5" components 709PS, they definitely hit the highs. For the subs I've got a Sub Zero box filled with some Infinity 1030 10" Subs. Subs are temporary until I find the best way to install something.

Enough talk, here's some pictures.

You can see what's in the way.... Some grinder, body saw and filing action made the speaker fit....

And the door panels that I started with were that light blue. Changed that since the rest of the rig was black...

Before:

After:

Passenger side bed panel, made a new set and covered in some marine vinyl.

You might notice that it doesn't go all the way to the edge... That's cause we didn't get the last hoop bent quite enough so there was interference from the cage.

The power, speaker and RCA's are all run to the amplifier on the driver bed panel separately, you don't want them to cross.

Reinforced the rear side of the panel so I could use some short screws to attache the amplifier to the bed side.

Speakers in, and you can see the slit I put in to route the wires behind the panel.

And how the finished amp looks.

Awesome installs. What other options are there besides cutting holes in the door or dash? I don't like the kick panels but I may go with them since I don't want to cut the door.

80 is the later version of the dash right? You should be able to fit 3.5" speakers in the corners. There are brackets for them to mount under the pad without cutting. Besides that you can buy pods for the kick panels but they aren't very useful as they get in the way.

With the little speakers up front and some bigger 6.5" rounds in the back you'll be cranking.

remember that if you cut a hole in the bottom of the door and you're not happy with it you can always put a carpeted panel over it and nobody will ever know.

Re: Lets seee your custom stereos for your K5 Blazers ........

The 80 dash is the same as the 73, from what I know. Although my screen name say 80, I am asking about this for my new 73 Blazer. Confusing, but the 80 was my first truck and I've had the handle for 17 years.

My 80 had some custom speakers mounted on the door panel. Local speaker shop made them and installed them. That was in 1993 or so.

Gotcha, so you have the opportunity to put a speaker in the center of the dash then.
If you're willing to cut up a door panel that would be the second best besides in the lower section of the door.

Re: Lets seee your custom stereos for your K5 Blazers ........

If you really want to keep it original, you can refit the original with new am/fm/aux guts. Here's what I did with my 62 t-bird:

http://www.vintagethunderbirdclub.or...pic.php?t=3257

I had the stereo refit by a professional, but it gave me am and fm on the same dial, plus I ran an aux cable to the glove box (center console on that car) for the Ipod, shown in a different thread on that board.

For the center 6x9 I got a single stereo 6x9 - it has a center mid range and stereo tweeters pointing outward. Not perfect, but at least the sound was in stereo and it fit without cutting anything up.
