Educate me: Underdash lights, door pillar pins-why not in my K5?
My 72 CST has a single wall top and the dome lights that come with it.
1) It lacks pins on the door pillars to activate the top lights when doors open. Is that how Blazers were quipped? My 72 trucks have pin activated dome lamps. 2) What Blazer models and/or years were quipped with under dash lights? Mine lacks these. Did single wall Blazers get under dash lights? Pic of under dash lights:

Thanks Dave - What about pins in the front door pillars? Do you have these? I grabbed that medium green K5 I PM'd you about....

Good Q, I think every single wall I've seen did not have them.

Re: Educate me: Underdash lights, door pillar pins-why not in my K5?
Thanks! It was better in person! I will post pics soon. What I want to know is, did your Blazer come with these pins in the pillars from GM? It seemed odd that my K5 doesn't have these but I don't yet know a whole lot about Blazers. Thanks for the help!

Re: Educate me: Underdash lights, door pillar pins-why not in my K5?
Pete Iam going to throw this out there. Maybe the CST only had dome lights because they thought you wound never remove the top because of the INT panels getting wet?????

Re: Educate me: Underdash lights, door pillar pins-why not in my K5?
Could be! My 71 non-CST had under dash lights and a double wall top. So, with a 2x wall top I guess these under dash lights were the only option (no available dome light). BUT I thought this Blazer had pins so the lights came on when a door opened. Now with the dome lights on a 2x top, maybe GM didn't feel the need to offer the under dash lights. What puzzles me is - why no door pins to operate these dome lights?

Wonder if some just had these (plant specific deal maybe?), a dealer accessory, or my K5 had a pin-ectomy from a PO (seems unlikely).

Re: Educate me: Underdash lights, door pillar pins-why not in my K5?
If your top has dome lights and is attached to the body by bolts that pass through stainless trim strips you have a single wall top. If not, it's a double. So the under dash lights were not just on CSTs then....

i would think that if a pin ectomy had been preformed the holes would still be in the door jams

Re: Educate me: Underdash lights, door pillar pins-why not in my K5?
Good info. My truck is unmolested (but was painted once) still I can't imagine why someone would fill pin holes then paint over - seems ridiculous. Odd though, why no pins on the door pillars in a 72 CST? It's a Flint built truck.

I'm not sure why, but they're pretty rare in Blazers. All of my trucks have had them, even the base models.

Single wall top, CST no pins and no underdash checking in.

72 GMC Jimmy, base model. Door pins and underdash lights.
I will also say the AAW door pins still dont fit worth a crap on my setup.

Thanks for the feedback guys - still doesn't seem to be a pattern here. Some had pins others didn't. Odd...

Re: Educate me: Underdash lights, door pillar pins-why not in my K5?
No pins in my current blazer, 72 single wall non-cst. The dome light is turned on by the headlight switch. And I can't remember if my last 72 had them. It did have a dome light.
