Got a 99 1500, what parts can i use on a 64?

I've come into a 99 silverado by way of my son wrecking his. He's fine but the truck is too far gone to fix. My question is this... what can i use from the 99 on my 64 swb? I know im gonna use the 5.3 and tranny. What about things like the rear end, gas tank, power window motors, power door locks, tilt column etc... Im sorting thru all the posts and builds on here, and Woogeroo sent me a great link to FAQs. Any ideas would be welcome!

The rear end will be about 5.5" wider that your original rear end. That is way too wide unless you plan on using the factory deep backspacing wheels as used on that truck. Even then tire clearance might be tight. I don't think the gas tank will work very well. However, you may be able to retrofit the intank fuel pump into another tank that will fit your '64 better. You're going to need a EFI pump of some sort for that 5.3. As for the power windows and door locks, that depends on your fab skills and ambition. Other things that you can use would be the brake booster and possibly the master cylinder. That '99 booster is one of the boosters that is compatable with the brake booster brackets that I sell. You can also use the seats in your '64 without too much work.

Thanks Captain! I thought the rear may be too wide. What about the steering column? any thoughts on that? I want to use every possible part I can to save $$.

You can make most any part work, if you want to put the work into it to make it fit. I personally have not used a column that new, but I have seen it done. It will take some research to figure out the wiring, and maybe some trimming and modifying to make it physically fit the truck. If you stay with the EFI and all the electronics from the '99 truck, that will help with installing the steering column.

There is a thread over in the '67-'72 projects section titled "Project...praise the lowered" He put a '67 body onto a '04 frame and running gear. You can see how much work he went to to make it happen.

That is very similar to what it would take to put a '60-'66 body onto a '88 and up frame and running gear.
