Kinda looks like it was mounted into the center stock location, this would require cutting the lens and metal faceplate, maybe even the backing plate too? Humm....

Ok I fess up, that's what i did, it looks pretty clean and it works fine, but 15 years later i kinda wish i hadn't done it.
