Floor to column shifter

Hi,
I have a 700R trans with a B & M ratcheting floor shifter. My column is the original "3 on the tree" manual. I was wondering if anyone has had the experience of changing the shifter on to that column? My buddy who works on transmissions looked at my truck and said it would be an easy swap and would help me. I just wanted to make sure. I went to the "Truck Shop" and bought a 17" conversion rod to make the swap. Once I swap it, ill sell the B & M. Anyone with any advise for me? I was gonna go with a Lokar floor shifter (tall one) but decided to clear up the floor space instead and have it look more stock by throwing it back on the column. Any advise/tips would be appreciated!
Thanks again

Re: Floor to column shifter

No, trying to take my 4 speed 700r trans shifter from the floor, to the column. My other option is to just put a Lokar 16 or23" auto floor shifter.id rather put iron the column, more original and frees up floor space.

Re: Floor to column shifter

I personally think your best bet would be to find a four speed column shift that was available on a lot of vans 70's-80's. I don't know that you can convert the 3 speed manual column to work w/4 speed auto. Im not saying its not possible, just haven't heard of it. I have seen a lot of guys use the 2 speed auto columns on 3 speed autos, but most of the guys I've seen w/4 speed autos go to a newer or aftermarket column.

Re: Floor to column shifter

So, yesterday I pressed in with the conversion. Bought a $40 kit from the truck and car shop in orange and started the installation. Luckily all the tabs for the 3 speed manual were still on the steering column and they never filled the shifter hole. The kit for converting had a rod that was too short. Bought a piece of steel rod and a hardware store $4 and cut and welded on the threads from the rod in the kit. A couple of other little bends and about an hour later i had it done. It took longer to remove the old shifter out of the cab than it did to make the conversion! Stoked! I know guys think a floor shifter is better but I prefer the more stock look to the truck and it frees up space so the old lady slide over next to me while cruising!!

Re: Floor to column shifter

Haha! Yes. I tried but it keeps telling me the pics are too large. They are pics I took with my iPhone. Having trouble resizing. Is there an app I can use for that?

The first pic is a **** if the inside.
Second is a shot from the column down to the trans. Found an app that resizes your pics right on ur phone. It's called "smarpon" from the App Store. Free and worksPosted via Mobile Device
