Re: 65 C20 transmission.
The C20's were available with the TH400 originally. If you plan on using it hard, I would go with the TH400. If it is mostly a cruiser/driver, then a TH350 will work just fine. However since most C20's had fairly low gears, an upgrade to a 700R4 will keep the engine rpm's down and up your mpg's a bit.

you could use an a/t column from the same vintage that you have or you can install a later model tilt column(not difficult to install) ron |

Re: 65 C20 transmission.
NO,the 700R4 is not electronically controlled. The successor to the 700R4, the 4L60E, and the 4L80E are electronically controlled. The 4L60E and the 4L80E can be built as a full manual trans. When installing the 700R4, two things are very, very important. 1) the TV cable needs to be connected and abjusted correctly, as well as the carb connection having the correct geometry. 2) the torque converted lockup needs to be connected and operating. There are many, many, many threads in the 'Engine and Drivetrain' section about the 700R4 as well as the other 2 transmissions.
