A pillar deflectors??

Has anyone taken these pieces off their truck. What was their original purpose?

here's a shot of my well rusted part. They spot weld to the A pillar and I assume they deflect Air?? I'm thinkin they could be left off and it may lessen the wind noise>> Anybody??

I've seen several guys remove them. Basically, they keep water from coming around the windshield into the side windows. I've seen some guys build that area up with some rod to build up the edge to match the door angle.

I removed mine and I bought replacements off ebay that look very nice if you plan to replace them. If not you will probably have to add material to close up the door gap if you're concerned about that sort of thing.
