Rear Suspension '51 - 3/4 ton
Is the upper set of rear springs called an "auxilliary spring set"? I am trying to figure out if this upper set of springs is part of what makes the rear suspension a 3/4 ton truck. Do 1/2 tons have this upper set? I will never load anything other than a cooler in the bed and was wondering if i would get into any problems removing this upper set. Some advantages I might have would be 1) a more "clean" look in that area, 2) a softer ride, and 3) it may lower the rear a bit. If I can remove the upper set, I figure i will need new U-bolts since there appears to not be enuf threads on the bolt itself if i remove the upper set. Any help would be appreciated.

No, the half tons do not have those springs. They do not affect the ride unless they are touching the brackets on the frame.
