Is this dually swap going to work like I hope?
I've searched this to death on the boards here but can't figure out a definate answer to my question. I have an '83 K20 that I want to turn into a dually. I picked up a dually bed and tailgate, dually dana 60 front, and dana 70 HD pickup rear for practially nothing. I had a friend measure the frame on my K20 and move the spring perches on the dana 70 rear to match since a K30 frame is narrower than a k20. My simple question is will this all plug in like I think it will or am I missing something that will make this not work? I'm afraid of tearing my truck apart and not being able to finish the swap cause I was stupid and missed something. I know its silly to do and won't increase the weight capacity of my truck, but I have the pieces and I love the look of a square dually. Any insight is much appreciated...

Re: Is this dually swap going to work like I hope?
GM trucks are nice to work on ...most swaps are a bolt in
The frame width on K20/K30 should be the same...just the rear spring hangers are different. The K30 front end should bolt right in And if you have moved the perches the 70 should drop in the back. Driveshaft length and shock mounts are last 2 mods We made a few suburban dually 4x4s this way back in the 80s Just don't use it hard ...we broke the K30 frames on our tow trucks and deck trucks right behind the cab...and they were only a few years old then |

Desert, that truck is awesome! Exactly what I'm hoping for. Did you just move the perches on the Dana 70?

http://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/catalog/ Dana 70 HD 4" tube , Cut off old perches but left a tiny piece to set pinion angle to match old perches. Everything else bolted right up , drive-shaft , Parking brake cable. It also was the same ratio so no speedo changes. Did upgrade my rear springs to a set from SDsprings, Replaced all 4 shocks with a set of Rancho 9000XL , Rear swaybar from Hellwig Made a big difference with this on the back.
