Backfire
I recently finished my motor and after installing my throttle rod and kickdown cable I now backfire or cut out completly when I accelerate.
I no longer have timing marks on my timing cover with the new one, so I am kinda goofing with the distributor to get it runnable. I am taking it to a tune-up and Dyno shop tomorrow, but am wondering if I will make it there. About 10 miles of freeway.. It ran pretty good before I messed with the cables today. Could I have messed something up? Could I just have dirty fuel and clogged the filter?? Help!!!!

you are getting a back fire only after the trottle rod and tv cable installation, or did it do this before? when you say back fire is it actually spitting flame out of the carb throat or is it an after burn or popping in the exhaust? what is recently finished the motor? last night or last month, could be many things depending on the type of "back fire"

It sounds like an after burn or popping in the exhaust. No it didnt do it before, but the only other thing I did was adjust the idle on the carb.
I think it is the distributor timing, but i guess I'll find out tomorrow.. Thanks for the help, I'll let you know what they say at the tune-up.

Well I got the truck running like a champ. The Dyno shop found the cnter pin on the Cap was stuck up, barely making contact. He also found that I Had a bad module in the HEI, which I bought off the parts board.
I'm not complaining though, what should I expect for $35!!! Anyway it Dyno'd at 300HP, and lobes nicely at an idle. Thanks for all the help, and for getting me through my engine refresh.
