Not sure what I should do with the old girl.
Bought this Blazer a couple weeks ago with the intention of restomodding it with a 2014 Silverado running gear. The 600 mile trip driving her home with my kid made me rethink my idea. Sure she has a little sag in her ass, her makeup is a little smudged, and she is missing some of her jewelry, but I think I love her too much the way she is to reconstruct her. I don't know whether to go forward with my plan, or sell her and get something rougher that I don't mind tearing apart. I love the way it is now, if I didn't want a daily driver. But, my pampered ass is too used to driving an SLT Duramax to give up that much comfort and power, and my wife isn't going to be happy with another vehicle taking up garage space to only be used in fair weather. How rare is it to find a CST, factory tach, factory AC, driver in great shape with no rust, and a strong original motor?

Wow that's beautiful. That was a highly optioned rig with all that stock. I'd leave it be as well and not mess with it. Wish I had the cash to come take it off your hands. I'd trade ya mine plus cash to get that clean blazer. Lol. Then do as you wish. I bought mine completely stripped but running for 2 grand. I'm betting you payed a great deal more for that. I'm sure you will have no trouble reselling it. It's hard to find one unmolested after 40 years. Is the interior as good as the outside?

First of all, I love these Blazers. If I won the lottery, it would be the FIRST vehicle I would buy. But, what you have is an nice Blazer with some good options, not a nice Camaro/Chevelle/Impala that's optioned out. The most important part, the paint, isn't original. Do whatever you want with it. You aren't going to hurt a thing. Do what you want and then do your best to drive the wheels off it.

If you had the resources and time to build a 2nd drive train, Build it the way you want it, and swap the body over when its completed.....just My 2 cents... Looks great... enjoy the ride.

Cool man. It's nice to see what my interior should look like if I had all the parts to it. Lol

Re: Not sure what I should do with the old girl.
We drove home with the back end full of extra parts. I still haven't figured out what half of them are. I think I need one of the extenders that hold the hatch up, but don't see where anybody offers aftermarket parts for the hardtops.

First of all, nice truck! second, if you are thinking of selling the truck just because you feel the truck is too nice to modify. Don't. Chances are the new owner will just modify it anyway. I sold a very sweet 65 pickup for this exact reason and the new owner did almost what I had been afraid to do. I won't make that mistake again. Keep in mind these are just trucks. Enjoy your purchase it really is a nice one.

Re: Not sure what I should do with the old girl.
Hatch parts are hard to find aftermarket. As the other guy said in the end it is yours to do with as you wish. If you keep everything that matches the truck it can always be out back to stock so it has mayching numbers parts. Lmc truck has a good amount of parts and pics to match up a lot of parts you may be able to identify in the catalog. Or can post here and we can do Our best to figure out what the parts are.

Re: Not sure what I should do with the old girl.
I say do what would make you enjoy it most. Some guys like a stock original ride while others like the LS and overdrive. Either way You go with it I'm sure it will be nice, you have a great one to start with. The only thing that makes me cringe is when I see a gen 1 that has been completely demolished from rock crawling.

Add another garage for your toys, then the wifey cant say much. Truck looks great, just add lots of pics, so we can follow along

Re: Not sure what I should do with the old girl.
Having done a few swaps, I can say I really like them.
HOWEVER, if your current drivetrain runs good, doesn't have bunch of leaks/drips, etc. then I don't know that I would swap it out. Remember, this was a daily driver to someone else 30+ years ago. Fortunately, there's no hurry. Drive it like it is for a while till you make up your mind. LS swaps take a little longer than you would think and the costs add up for all the little things. (Btw, my K/5 with 4" lift, 35's, and a 6.0 LQ9 only gets about 10.5 mpgs...not much better than a SBC...) Good luck! Keep up with the pics, please! Wil

Re: Not sure what I should do with the old girl.
My garage is already 1800 sf. I have other cars in there that don't get driven much, and I promised her the same wouldn't happen here. I'll keep the pics coming, but as Im sure everyone is aware what happens. I keep taking things off, instead of putting things back on. Upon further inspection the hatch isn't up to my standards, and Im going to try and find somebody to restore it for me, while I locate the parts I need. I live in the same town as Alcan Spring, so I may as well take care of the saggy butt. I just cant decide if I want to lift it 3 or 4 inches while im at it.

I know I previously said to do whatever you want with it, but please DO NOT put a ford motor in it....
