Re: Aftermarket Seatbelts???
That seat looks like it would cost more than my truck is worth and then I would have to by the passenger side. Here is a picture of the nut that the PO welded into the wall of my truck does it look like it will hold?

Re: Aftermarket Seatbelts???
IMHO welding a nut to the cab side is not strong enough.
I used belts from a 89 Chevy truck, and made mounting plates from 1/8 steel, IIRC 2" x 1.5" (coped plate others sold). I welded the nuts onto the plates. To mount the plates I drilled a hole for the seat belt bolt, and then 2 for 'mounting screws. (added 2 threaded holes in the plate. I dropped a wire in the large hole in the cab, feed in threw the large hole in the plate, and wrapped it around a bolt. Pulled the plate into position, installed the 2 'holding screws, then pushed the wire back out, and installed the belt. Passenger side I was able to reach the back of the plate! You also need plates under the floor for those mounts. Some of the aftermarket belt company's have great "how to's" that show proper mounting and how to locate them. |

Re: Aftermarket Seatbelts???
Here's how I did mine - non-retractable seat belts (and all trucks should have the mounting "surface" - if yours didn't come with belts though, then you'll need to add the backing plate/washer, etc as outlined by others above). Just like some others mentioned, non-retractables fall out onto the ground and it's annoying - so I added a self-retractor, something you could buy back in the day. It's available still through Year One (I purchased these in the Impala catalog, but used them on my truck once I sold the imp). These belts were in the truck, but were installed backwards (note the male end should be anchored to the floor, not the femle/latch end - i.e. the first picture is how it was before it was corrected), so I swapped them around and added the retractors - they work smoothly and, for me anyway, maintained some look of originality as opposed to modern (but very useful and convenient) retractor assemblies. Just one way to skin the cat. Also, a thread below that I referenced for install info that someone passed along to me on this site. 2nd post has a few more pictures - and concur on the comment above - referencing belt mfgrs sites for details - for instance, note the special bolt used to anchor the belts - not just any grade 8 will do - the factory deal is a special shoulder bolt (note that the rubber grommet is only used as an anti-rattle thing, I installed it on the shoulder of the bolt - and since it's only on the shoulder (and the bolt is completely torqued down before the rubber is even engaged means it has no impact on the install, strictly for anti-rattle)).

Re: Aftermarket Seatbelts???
I just ordered the 3 point retractable seat belts from lmc. I'll let you all know if they were worth the price. I needed black belts and the universal ones online seemed very sketchy and also are not dot approved.

Re: Aftermarket Seatbelts???
Looking to pick up a set of new seat-belts. What size 3 point retractable seat belts do I need. What size lap belt do I need for the center? Looking at both seatbelt planet or gobelts.

Re: Aftermarket Seatbelts???
Not aftermarket, but heres some OEM buckles that I restored and had some new webbing added to them. These will be for when I do the interior color change...
My truck did not come w/seat belts, but I did install them. I currently have some GM embossed buckles installed.

Re: Aftermarket Seatbelts???
Has anyone taken seat belts out of a 88-98 chevy truck? I got my bench seat out of one and was thinking about going back for the seat belts?

Re: Aftermarket Seatbelts???
Looks good
20 years ago when I put my Suburban together, my ex upholstered the seats for me and also put new webbing in the seat belts. Quote:

Re: Aftermarket Seatbelts???
The new webbing was well worth the safety factor. If they were not going to be used, I'd put the OEM/unrestored set I have in, but I do use my seatbelts, so new webbing was a must.

Re: Aftermarket Seatbelts???
I have had good luck with Julianos also. I've probably installed six or seven sets from them. Good quality and good color selection. The retracters seem a lot easier to setup up than using OE ones from another application. Seems like the operating angle for the lock is a little wider than OE.

Re: Aftermarket Seatbelts???
Nice interior, I bet your music sounds so good in there. Unlike sound waves bouncing off all metal surfaces. I want to make a clean, simple but hot rod head liner(more like a door panel is) and door panels to help fix this.

Re: Aftermarket Seatbelts???
Oh, and sry to change the subject. I too am interested in the adding of seat belts. I want to have the 4 point harness in the drive position, and at least two more lap belts. Lol it's funny cause both my girl and I fit fine with our two boys since they're not very old yet. These trucks are so wide. It's killer.
