Suspension Question
Am thinking about going with a heidts superride IFS on my 55 2nd.Would I have to flip the rear axel and C notch the frame to get proper ride height or could I go with lowering springs.Want the truck to be fairly level and not to low.How much would the IFS drop the truck?

Re: Suspension Question
From my experience, MII Fatmans stuff (1 '54 Chevy 1/2 ton, 1 '31 Oakland coupe and 1 46 Chevy 1/2 ton)with no alterations 2 inches with stock V6 springs (small block only), minus 2 more with lowered spindles and minus 2 more with lowering springs. These figures are based on the same size tire each time. You could get 5 inches by also changing tires (maybe more) With these mods would still maintain a good ride. Just my 2 cents.

Re: Suspension Question
You should be able to get some info from their website but as 47 Fasttoys mentioned above the diameter of the tires you run have a lot to do with the ride height when done.
Here on the Superride II http://heidts.com/kits/page44_45.html It says that the bottom of the frame rail will sit 2-1/2 inches below the center of the spindle with dropped spindles if I read that right or 1/2 inch below the centerline of the spindle with stock spindles. Given that you could figure out what tire size you want to run then with the diameter of said tire figure that the spindle shaft center is going to be half of that and the frame will be 2-1/2 inches below that with the dropped spindles. If the stock springs are in good shape I'd flip the axle to the top of the spring and put the proper size C notch in. You will need a C notch if you lower it down low anyhow spring axle on top or bottom of the spring The lowering springs on top of the axle aren't going to alleviate the need for clearance above the axle if you want to lower it real low.

Re: Suspension Question
i used a fatman mustII w/ standard spindles on truk, it lowered the front about 6''
i flipped the rear axle on top of stock springs to lower the rear 7'', that pretty much leveled truk at 5'' yes you will need to c-notch the frame in back or hit the frame bump stops often

Re: Suspension Question
I'd say that Ogre nailed it for static ride height, and stance for a Task Force truck. Low but not so low that you will get hung up on high spots or get pulled over for scrub line issues.

Re: Suspension Question
So if I go with IFS I have to flip the rear axel or can I go with lowering springs? I would like to end up with a 2 to 3 inch drop

Re: Suspension Question
Flipping the axle is going to get you more than 2-3 inches, As Ogre said in post #4 it's good for right at 7 inches drop. You might be better off with changing the springs if you only want 2 or 3 inches drop and may not need a C notch for that. That is probably the same amount of drop you would have with 5 or 600 lbs in the back.
You might even load some known weight in the back of the truck and when it gets down to where you want it measure the difference and that's the springs to order.
