Jasper engine?

Anyone used Jasper Engine for rebuilding of engines? Thinking about sending my original 327 to them for a complete rebuild.

Ihave used them for a 292 cu in., very pleased . I have 60,000 on it and still runs strong

When I had a shop that is the only reman I would sell. The others would get you in trouble. There warranty handling is excellent, but very seldom is needed.

Any crate motor is better than the rebuilt or tired original engine it came with. Based on recent personal experience I just bought an ATK reman 250 I6 for my 65 C10 to replace the 71 Olds 250 that came installed in John Lee.......

This is what I learned on Monday, 0610 AM, 3/4 miles from the house at 35 mph and accelerating to the 3rd gear shift.....when the rebuilt engine (under 8K miles) dropped a valve and bent a rod/chewed itself up inside.......

If the Prior Owner says the engine was rebuilt.......you can ALWAYS be sure that it will EXPLODE shortly after you decide it is TOTALLY reliable.

I have a Jasper crate motor in my F150 (sorry) that has about 40K miles on it now quite happy with it no problems at all.

Lol, that's exactly why I like to put all my stuff together myself. Too many butchers out there. FWIW, I'll take an old worn out engine that hasn't been messed with over a "freshly rebuilt"(molested) one any day of the week.

Which I guess would be my personal suggestion, to put it together yourself. That's the only way you really know it's right, IMO. Maybe I'm paranoid, but then again, my "rebuilt" 292 had 13 pushrods....

If you are going to send in your original 327 to them to get rebuilt, I would suggest marking all the major parts, ie: block, heads, crank,etc., so that you can verify that you do indeed get your original engine back. Since a 327 is a somewhat desireable engine, someone along the process may decide to pull the 'ol switcheroo, and fingure you wouldn't know the difference. I have heard of it happening before.

I have a very good friend who has a shop and uses jasper engines and rebuild service. He has only had 2 problems with a motor from them and both were handled very quickly and without any issues. He has installed A LOT of engines too. They are not cheap mind you, but do you want cheap or good? cuz you wont get both.

Have you asked around if there are any local reliable shops? I had a local guy do mine and i also had him run it on his dyno. I got to watch him dyno it and he was a little liberal with the throttle, lol But anyone i talked to said he was a good builder and did lots of race engines(mostly circle track stuff) People said he was always swamped with work. I just wouldn't want to pay the shipping fees if i can get stuff done local.

Free shipping on my new long block/crate motor. Buy local, venders can often cut you a break....mine came free shipping, $150 price discount, $50 in coupon for anything else I want to pick up, 5 qts penzoil, Wix Filter and Supply of GM Blue Hi Temp engine paint. I'm quite pleased at not having to look for a local builder (nearest is 50 miles cause NAPA don't anymore) and not havin to deliver, pick up, pull, replace, rent tools, skin knuckles, etc. In the long run, it'll be much cheeper than all that work tryin to fix the existing long block.

I like having my old motors rebuilt if it is not in pieces and was running. The reason being you know what you started with, many heat and cool cycles abused or otherwise. If it magnafluxes out with no cracks rebuilt it. Weather you send it off or have it done locally I would definately stensil or otherwise mark the heads block and crank and tell them it is marked so you get your "Prestressed" part back.

Thanks for all the input. Yes, I would mark all my parts before sending them out and make sure everyone is onboard as to what I expect to get back. j

we have always done our own engine/machine work in house but at one period of time, years ago, we started using jasper engines to free-up some of our time. we had enough issues with them that we went back to doing it all in house. timing gears put in wrong, cracked heads...
at the same time we tried using their transmissions, for the same reason, and none of them made it off the lift. i tried to tell them what they were doing wrong but they wouldn't listen.
this was over 10years ago. maybe they are better now

Yes. They made a complete about face several years ago. I had a lot of trouble with them years back.
