shipping a radiator shroud question
So how do you guys ship a shroud? (4x4) Slap a label on it and send it out naked or do you put it in a box? Box seems big and bulky probably adds to shipping cost? Does a used shroud need protection? Thanks...

Yes, you need to box it. And yes, the size Will cost extra. I just shipped one, and it cost double because of size.

box, and use large bubble wrap at least 2" thick around all sides. Otherwise, if it isn't adequately packed and breaks in shipping, you will have a tough time getting reimbursed

Re: shipping a radiator shroud question
I had a fender BADLY dented by UPS last month. From now on, whatever panels I buy will have to be packed in a wooden crate or I'm not buying. I will pay extra for the crate and shipping. That's cheaper than fighting UPS and then taking it to a shop for repair.

Thanks for replies. I will have to think about this, may just try local sale. Shipping prices are outrageous.

Re: shipping a radiator shroud question
It's not just the big things getting damaged. I have had two radio deletes and various tail light pieces come in unusable condition. Frustrating.

Re: shipping a radiator shroud question
Don't let a high shipping price scare you. If you want it, pay for it.
There is a rear fender I have in mind and shipping will be CRAZY (it is to be crated) but that's OK as I'll never find one locally and I can't drive 1500 miles for it one way. |

Re: shipping a radiator shroud question
Pretty much gotta' agree with In The Ten Ring on, "if you want it, pay for it" thoughts. Some of these parts for our trucks are just plain HARD to come by. A nice, clean, unbroken 4x4 radiator shroud being one of them. When was the last time you went into a salvage yard asking for a 4x4 shroud and came away with one at a decent price? Just don't happen now days. Here bouts 67-72 trucks are picked clean to the bone within couple days of hitting the yards.
That said, when you ship a part pack it as YOU were wanting to receive it in good useable conditon. I probably go overboard packing when I do ship but have never had any damage thru shipping. Just a thought to ponder. Yeah, shipping costs are high so do your shopping as best you can but sometimes just gotta' bite the bullet if you want it bad enough.
