..Van Tilt parts problem
What parts are missing on this van tilt? The bearing is in there, then some fine threads that are not on the non-tilt column. I have the cancel cam & spring, steering wheel and horn contacts. Not sure what's missing and I have service manual and LMC catalog but they don't show everything. Thinking about sending it to Kevsclassics for a rebuild.
Thanks for any help!!! |

What are the fine threads for? seems like a washer and nut goes on. then the cancel cam. I have that spring in your pics. thanks for the help.

Re: ..Van Tilt parts problem
I scanned the '72 service manual and see a wedge & nut. There is no spring unless it goes somewhere else. Are these parts available?

Re: ..Van Tilt parts problem
The fine threads are used so as to adjust the preload on the bearing which is under the nut that can be seen in your picture. The parts that go on after the nut are the spring as shown in leddzepp's picture and the cancelling cam. The steering wheel is then installed and held on by a smaller nut that is shown in your scan.
I am not sure why the fine threads are the length that they are as they could have been made shorter. Jim

Re: ..Van Tilt parts problem
Thanks for the great input. I am going to send it off to get rebuilt. That is a new Delco turn signal switch off ebay in the pic.

Thank You leddzepp for the help too! What a pain just to have a tilt column for these trucks.

Re: ..Van Tilt parts problem
I thought it was 67-72. Not sure if any other years are compatible.

Re: ..Van Tilt parts problem
I have ( had ) a 77 or 78 Chevy van tilt column in my 1969 shortbed. Just have to change out the intermediate shaft and modify the nuetral safety switch.

Re: ..Van Tilt parts problem
Nothing was missing from the van tilt column. Modified the intermediate shaft and a new slot in the column. installed and works great.
