85 Chevy C10 purchase Questions and help
Hi everyone! I am looking at picking up my first square body truck 85 Chevy C10 Short bed with a 350 rebuilt motor from jasper (unknown miles), 350 auto transmission with a shift kit. Power steering, front disc brakes, factory air (missing compressor), cd player, brand new Goodyear tires, new paint job.
Is there anything specific I should be looking for ? what do you all think is a fair price. THanks in advance for your time and help! Dan |

Re: 85 Chevy C10 purchase Questions and help
I sold my 85 earlier this year for $3000 and it wasn't anywhere near as nice as this one. I'd say $5000 price range would be fair if it's as nice as it looks in the pictures. As for things to look for, these trucks are pretty straight forward. If it drives fine then there probably isn't anything to worry about. The only problem I've had on all three of my squarebodies is the guages not working, especially the gas gauge.

I would take off at least a grand for missing brake pad. lol No, really that is a nice truck and should bring at least $5,000 like russellh575 said. Depends on any rust, how it is running etc. Hard to tell by picture alone.

Crawl under it and look for rust on the frame and under side of the truck,Look at the cab corners and rock panels for rust or bondo.Price 3k to 5k is a good ball park stuff verys from state to state on price anymore.

Re: 85 Chevy C10 purchase Questions and help
I can see it still needs work detailing etc
those stamped type valve covers warp and leak easy with no papers on the engine , I'd want it confirmed its replaced. same with body work , who did it, where bring a couple of flat fridge magnets and Kleenex . see a body flaw in the rust areas, hold Kleenex over area, place magnet, does it hold?

Re: 85 Chevy C10 purchase Questions and help
With a jasper engine they give you a under hood sticker if its not there take that with a gain of salt.If you want to be a pain you can get a paint thickness gauge the cheapest one is like 80 bucks.Use it in random spots see how thick the paint is.It can tell you if its got one paint job or a few and even if the paint is even all around or not.It can even show a spot thicker which normally is filler hiding a dent not fixed right.
