Exhaust manifolds
I'm looking to run some short headers on my 86. Anybody has a preference on what to run. Also, would like a set that is not too pricey either.

Re: Exhaust manifolds
Why? Your current manifolds all busted up? (hey, you wanted a comment. )
I personally don't have a recommendation on shorties, I'm even to cheap to buy quality longtubes. Did a site search turn up anything? Seems this topic does turn up from time to time.

Re: Exhaust manifolds
If its a driver, stick with the cast iron manifolds. Makes regular maintanence that much easier, especially if you need to work outside. But then, I notice you are in Texas, so frigid cold may not be a factor. =-)

Re: Exhaust manifolds
Of course I'm running long tube, but I just used some painted Jegs that were $125 I've had good results with them so far.
Here's some shorties/block huggers Jegs brand http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS+Performan...30057/10002/-1

Re: Exhaust manifolds
I and my son have long tube headers on ours (84 GMC and 86 Silverado) and they have been there quite some time without any leak issues.

Re: Exhaust manifolds
If your looking for power shorties flow about the same as the manifolds do,Only things really different is the weight of the two and the looks.Look around for big name long tube headers if you want power.

Re: Exhaust manifolds
I've bought two sets in the last couple years used from the local classifieds for cheap (like $30 cheap). Cleaned them up using electrolysis, painted them, and put them into service. Used Chevy truck headers are super cheap and plentiful.
