K10 Blazer HELP
I bought a 1983 GMC Fullsize Jimmy. I knew it was a rust bucket when I bought it, I have known the guy I got it from since I was in diapers and he had it since new. It has a snow plow on it and basically he sold me the plow and gave me the truck. Well upon lowering the tailgate recently it fell off in my hands and the floor is very rotten. I bought a cab from an 86 Chevy pickup. and I want to build a flatbed. Any advice on pulling the jimmy body off, putting on the pick up cab and best way to build a wooden flatbed. I'm not a mechanic or a body man, my father has a background in mechanics so he is going to help me but we still would like some advice.

Re: K10 Blazer HELP
hope you have a pile of scrap metal and some fabrication skills. I did a s10 onto a k5 frame but I think the rear cab mounts are the only ones you have to build.

Re: K10 Blazer HELP
I usually have some stuff laying around and I have a welder so I'm sure I can get something to work in the way of cab mounts.

Re: K10 Blazer HELP
Search. And review rust repair threads. Buy patch panels from classicparts or LMCtruck.com.

Re: K10 Blazer HELP
There isn't any rust on the new cab. The current body is beyond repair. The entire floor would need replaced and there is nothing left to weld to. The front fenders will need replaced, the back fenders need replaced, the tailgate hinges are rusted off, the body is trashed. It lived its whole life as a snow pusher and the salt ate the body apart, the frame however is fine.

Re: K10 Blazer HELP
Putting a cab on the frame shouldn't be that hard its been done a lot.And with the flat bed it would only be like 4 foot long.Something like this http://www.cardomain.com/ride/218690...vrolet-blazer/

Re: K10 Blazer HELP
Yes - keep in mind the Blazer/Jimmy is shorter than a shortbox pickup, so you'll have to fab cab mounts and you'll have a super-shorty flatbed.

Re: K10 Blazer HELP
The front cab mounts are the same on blazers and pick ups. There were a few frame changes on blazers. 73-77 was different from 78-91. 87-91 floor pans were different from 78-86. on the blazers. What year is the cab your using?

Re: K10 Blazer HELP
Is the cab from a 4x4 truck? If not you will need the high hump trans tunnel out of one.

Re: K10 Blazer HELP
I do have a cab from a 4x4 but just out of curiosity how big of job would that end up being to do? I have a 2wd cab laying in the grove I had thought of using before I ended up buying the 4x4 cab

If I were you I would find a rear cab mount crossmember to modify/bolt/weld into your blazer frame. That would simplify the swap. This swap is somewhat common and pretty straight forward. There is at least one build thread on here. I'll see if I can find it. On the flat bed, I would build it to bolt to the frame with a metal structure and use wood for the floor only You might try actually reading a thread before ordering someone to search

Re: K10 Blazer HELP
I'm having trouble finding the build thread here, but how about a link with lots to see?
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Trazer Pic I stole from pirate4x4 of a custom rear crossmember

Re: K10 Blazer HELP
Here is a pic of an 80 K5 that i parted out a while back, the PO cut the back of the blazer tub off and welded on the rear of a pickup truck cab onto it. After seeing how much time he spent splicing the two together I firmly believe it would be far easier to fab up a rear cab mount on the blazer frame instead.
I have considered doing the same project every time I part out a K5, I think it would be a great off road toy/plow truck, being the short wheel base gives you the option to fit in smaller places. -Sam
