64 c10 battery question
I have a 1964 c10 with a 350 out of a 1970 chevelle in it. The battery has held a good charge up until I hooked up my lights, now if I run it with the lights on the battery dies. I can charge the battery and run the truck all day long but if I turn the lights on for a few minutes it drains the battery because when I cut the truck off and try to restart it the battery doesn't have the juice to start it. The battery, alternator, and voltage regulator are brand new and I didn't have this problem until I hooked up lights... What could be causing this problem?

Re: 64 c10 battery question
You have a short in the wiring for your lights. Check voltage before you turn on the lights and check again with the lights on.

Re: 64 c10 battery question
Have you checked to be sure that the alternator is putting out 13.8-14.2 volts? Just because the alternator and voltage regulator are new doesn't mean they are working correctly. It could also be a wiring issue.

...times 2 on the Captin's "...Have you checked to be sure that the alternator is putting out 13.8-14.2 volts? Just because the alternator and voltage regulator are new doesn't mean they are working correctly...".
BTW: a functional volt & ohmmeter can be bought from Harbor Freight for approx. $5-$8; its weakest point(s) is easily-broken test probes, which are actually broken more by improper storage than by use. Sam |
