Gas gauge and coolant temp gauge not working

Hi I just bought my first old pickup and it's a 65 stepside even though I bought it as a 66 (hence my username) and the oil pressure guage works but the gas and coolant temp gauges don't and I'm looking for where to start as far as troubleshooting goes

Fuses and make sure all wires are hooked up to the backs of the gauges and the sending units.

Welcome to the forums.

The 1st rule of electrical troubleshooting is Check to see that the wires are actually hooked up.

Then check for grounds, wire breaks, blown fuses.

Then if that doesn't solve the problem you test the gauges.

Here's an easy test if the fuel tank is in the cab. You need to do this with the ignition in the run position ... remove the wire on the gas tank's sending unit and touch the wire to the fuel tank to ground it out. If the the fuel gauge jumps to "E", then it's most likely a bad sending unit in the tank. If the gauge doesn't move, then go to the FAQ section and look up the section on gauges.
