Got my truck on the freeway and it bounces in the rear. Its not like a no shock bounce, but like a quick stiff bounce. It rides real smooth till i hit bumps, I know its not a cadillac its a 3/4 ton 85 model. It has a hellwig on the back spring that makes it a 1 Ton..

If I remove it, as i dont need it, will it soften my ride some??

the helpers will make it ride rougher what i would do is just undo the front and rear spring ubolts that hold the helper springs and see how it drives .. if you dont notice any difference it wont hurt anything to leave them on

I was just going to remove them completely and list on craiglist.

i doubt it's even hitting them.. a 3/4 ton will ride like that regardless.. easiest/best put a few hundred pounds out back, it'll ride better.. it'll make the suspension cycle.. not just lift the truck up.

oh never mind. i just assumed it was the normal helper springs.

well i removed the bolts on both ends and low n behold the rear dropped like 3/4 to an inch. the ride is a big time difference. now freeways drive are comfortable and not choppy. city driving is a whole lot smoother also.

And to think I was going to start a thread on how to lever out my truck LMAO...

It makes sense that it would ride better. The springs can't move all clamped down like that.

I agree, but ive been told 3/4 ton trucks rode ruff, and it would not make a difference if i unbolted it. Not true, and he will get a nut kickin when he comes by lol.

My '87 rode rougher than crap. It was lifted and was an 1/2 ton longbed. Worst ride ever. It would vibrate your teeth out it rode so bad. It didn't even have helper springs. But you know I put ten batteries, a bumper and some other stuff in the bed plus pulled my '76 with a tow dolly and the truck didn't squat. How I don't miss that ride.

old ih 4wd dually my great grandpa had was prob the worse riding thing ive ever been in but you could put 2 tons on the flatbed and it wouldnt squat. it killed you though to drive. it was a early 60s one.
