Camshaft for 454 BBC

I am looking for recommendations for a cam for my 454. Engine is 30 over with flattops, edelbrook Performer RPM intake, headers nothing fancy. I don't want anything to wild but I want some lope to it. Thanks

Re: Camshaft for 454 BBC

Need more info. What transmission? If auto does it have a stall converter? Are you opposed to getting a stall converter? What rear gears do you have? What rpm range are you looking to be in? Are you looking for torque? Lumpy idle and nothing wild don't really go together. Something like the lunati voodoo 10110702 is probably in the range you should be looking at. It will make really good torque down low but still have good mid range power.

Flat tops in a 454 = 8.0 compression at best. A cam with any lope at all, will be a slug, due to no cylinder pressure, as a result of the extremely low compression.

I would go over to the Chevelle Forum and look around. There seems to be a few guys over there that know what they're doing...

http://www.chevelles.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=13

I'm leaning towards the XE 268H

You can also send your planed build to comp cams (or most any cam manufacturer) and they will recommend a grind for your application...

Good luck...
