cab removal / storage?
my 81 C10 currently has the bed removed as well as the engine and trans. removed....I plan on taking the cab off soon and since I don't have any spare room for the cab in the garage to store it, I was wondering if I could store the cab on the frame where the box was or if it would be unsafe or unstable located there. Thanks in advance.

To be safe I would get some lumber from home depot/lowes, drill a hole through them where the cab mounts are, and bolt the cab to the boards/posts - one running left to right on the front pair of mounts, one running left to right on the rear mounts.
why you ask? Well, if you're going that far in the restoration to remove the cab you probably dont want the mounts/floors/other edges to bend or distort under the weight of the cab. Remember, the cab doesnt rest on the frame rails, it rests on its reinforceing mounts on the mounting pads attached to the frame rails.... those pads arent present on the rear rails where the bed is... |
