AC vent balls, rechrome?
What do we do here? Finally got a AC setup and the center vent balls are faded bad and need rechromed or replaced.
Is there a repop made for these or a place that rechromes plastic? Thanks, Steve

Re: AC vent balls, rechrome?
I haven't ever found anyone to rechrome plastic. I did find a shop once years ago that would chrome brand new plastics but wanted nothing to do with stripping old chrome and replating parts.
The cost they quoted me was astronomical. Higher than the grateful dead

Re: AC vent balls, rechrome?
You may want to call and talk to Advanced Plating. I've been led to believe that they will chrome anything. It's not likely to be cheap but it may be an option.

Re: AC vent balls, rechrome?
I have a sneaking suspicion that these will fit, from 64-67gto. not 100% correct but i think the right size and are new repop and cheap, would love feedback if someone tries them:

Re: AC vent balls, rechrome?
Also, i've seen spray chrome that looks very good on plastic, not sure of the brand though.

Re: AC vent balls, rechrome?
There is a member here that found a place that I believe was re-chroming them, but I don't remember who it was.
You might check your local area to see if someone is doing the new spray chrome process.

Re: AC vent balls, rechrome?
I think it was Advanced Plating that they showed on one of the weekend car shows. They do everything. They even had a cow skull that they chromed.

Re: AC vent balls, rechrome?
I thought about casting a paiir out of aluminum. Polish it up to a shine. I made a small forge a while back and have yet to use it. It would be a good excuse to try it.
Advance Plating is local for me and they seem to be the to go place for quality plating. There web site has some examples of what they charge per part. Seems expensive to me but Ive never had anything plated so what do I know besides its out of my budget. They also do a nickel finish that's getting pretty popular. Vents would look sick in nickel. Something Ive also heard about Advanced Plating is during a flood we had in May of 2010 there shop was under water pretty good. What surprised me was that they said they had zero contamination of the water from there chemicals. Tells me that they have no problem investing is quality equipment.

Re: AC vent balls, rechrome?
We had my whole dash done on a 66 gmc, (chrome tech usa) the only problem with plating plastic is that the chrome seems to be very soft.....but it looks great.....I have been very careful about cleaning the dash nothing abrasive.
stock: http://kieth.smugmug.com/Trucks/66-GMC/i-PBfZXjT after plating: cost about $200.00 http://kieth.smugmug.com/Trucks/66-GMC/i-WG7WWFv All chrome was too much so we painted the flat part crinkle black, thought the contrast looked better. http://kieth.smugmug.com/Trucks/66-GMC/i-X8WmmMg |
