Re: Bikini Top
I bought some sunbrella type material to make some. Just got it off ebay. I have a roll bar and figured I would tie it to that. I'm going to go with snaps but I plan to make a header that bolts to the original top mountes so there are no snaps in my windshield. There are guys on here who have fabbed up headers to put the snaps in. Wouldn't be too expensive to get a shop to sew up something. The material is super thick so doing it yourself would take a long time. You need a strong sewing machine which upholstery shop usually have.

Re: Bikini Top
Here is my bikini top thread - just recommend calling the guy who makes these to confirm his current price.

Re: Bikini Top
Thanks blazerowner and YJ, thinking the buying the material and doing the leg work and bringing it to a shop will be the way to go. I was hoping their was a way around snaps.

Re: Bikini Top
I made mine out of a bikini top made for an early 70's era jeep CJ. The width is the same as the top of the Blazer windshield frame. I then had an upholstery shop modify the leading edge of the bikini top to mimick the leading edge of my full soft top so it uses the same snaps.

Re: Bikini Top
Another idea I had was possibly using brass grommets. You could fab up a thick gauge wire with small hooks welded to it, and that could mount to the top brackets. It might be easier and there would be no snaps. They sell wire stock at OSH or Lowe's along with the brass grommets. I for one will not drill snaps in the windshield so I have been researching ways around it.

Re: Bikini Top
Blazer owner i like the idea of not using snaps, no need to drill and give rust another location to fester. I would like to use some thing like the hard top uses maybe get the first few inches of a hard top and attach the the fabric to it.

Re: Bikini Top
There's a member on here making fiberglass pieces that fit over the windshield for soft tops so you don't have to cut into the windshield, it would probably fit your application. Search 'softtop installation no holes' and you should find him, he is based in Canada.

Re: Bikini Top
I sure wish someone would repro the original dealer-installed soft top, they were very safari-ish with the roll-up sides and rear flap.

Re: Bikini Top
Yep, he will still make them - just call him to verify his current price. I need to redo the order form as it and the prices quoted are out of date.
