Re: ad window
I just started mine at one side and slid it along untill is was all in the track. A little WD40 will help it slide in as well. My old dried one was difficult to remove as well but the new one went right in.
Good luck Marc

Re: ad window
I don't know if it is because mine is a '47, but it was impossible to slide the rubber out OR slide the new one in from the ends. I just could not make the tight turn down inside of the door. My new rubber was 'T' shaped and would not fit into the track, so I had to cut one edge off so that it was more of an 'L' shape. then I just used a screw driver to push it down in the track and then crimped the track in a few places. worked out very well. Also, don't try to use staples to install a new felt strip.... it sucks. I just used pop rivets and it worked great!

Re: ad window
thanks guys. mines a 49 and it has a little tab that can be bent out dead center of the track. I guess its so you can feed it in one side then make a loop
and then feed it through the other side. is that little rubber pliable or real stiff |

Re: ad window
very stiff. Yes I had the tab in the center also. there is no way to start inserting the rubber strip there.

Re: ad window
Ok good I'm not crazy. It was a while since I changed mine but I dont recall having much difficulty.
As for attaching the felt whiskers, on mine I just used 3M double sided tape to hold it them to the window trim. I was not sure how to re-staple them on. They have held fine using the double sided tape. Marc

Re: ad window
The channel that the rubber slides into has a gap with a tab that holds the rubber in. You pull down the tab then slide the rubber into the channel both directions. You then bend the tab back up to hold the rubber in. That tap is located right about in the middle between the front and back of the glass. Getting the old out will usually require you to simply break it up into little pieces as it has hardened to a glass like material.
I don't know what could be equivalent I have searched but 3M use to make a product called "Release agent" for installing things like these rubbers. It was SPECTACULAR and I have found nothing like it. I have one can about a half full out in my garage and treat it like gold. It allowed the rubber to slip in, but then evaporated quickly to nothing. Where as WD-40 is going to keep it lubed and I have to imagine will cause you problems later. But here is the spot where you fold down the little tab and slide the rubber into the slot. Brian

Re: ad window
They are mounted to the inside window trim, originally stapled to it.

Re: ad window
Here is pile of inner mouldings I have, you can see a few different ones with this felt "fuzzy" on the inside right where the glass hits. And it's stapled on. Brian

Re: ad window
When I redid all my door glass and rubber I left those pieces out. I figured I could get at them later when the weather warms up some. I did use the staples on those whisker pieces. I drilled guide holes into a piece of scrap metal to get the hole spacing right. Then I inserted a staple and clamped it down with a needle nose vise grip and used various implements to bend and fold the staples. I wasn't impressed with the results but it worked.
This spring I'm building a garage. This tent stuff is pretty poor.---Jack |

Re: ad window
this is a pic of the felt strip 'whiskers' installed with pop rivets. only took 5 minutes to do this. worked great. Now if I could just figure out an easy way to install the metal clips on the window channel.

Re: ad window
The trim pretty much holds it in place but I drilled a hole through the center of it at the top of the channel and installed a screw.---Jack
