'83 Dually Standard Cab, my latest acquisition

So, this past weekend I picked up a new hauler.

It's got a Big block, a Standard Transmission (3 speed plus low), lots of miles, and plenty of rust. However, it seems mechanically solid, so I decided I couldn't go wrong using it as a functional tow vehicle (The girlfriend wants to get a horse trailer, and I've got a car hauling trailer).

After fixing a few minor issues (water temperature gauge, valve cover gaskets, headlight wiring, etc) one of the first things to go will be the running boards.

Anyway, just thought someone here might appreciate a neat old work truck.

Clem

I like it! I honestly like the look of the running boards too, but maybe that's just me

Air up your front tire too..... it looks a bit low.

I sure like the looks of a regular cab dually...

Man that is a nice truck. I could use it minus the bed. I need one with a flat bed.

Re: '83 Dually Standard Cab, my latest acquisition

If it was me all that towing i would look in to a diesel swap,The 6.2 and 6.5 will bolt right in pretty much a 12 valve cummins is another good option but not the cheapest.

Re: '83 Dually Standard Cab, my latest acquisition

If it had had a diesel I'd have bought it...but it didn't. It was a good deal.

We don't do that much towing at this point...when we do, we'll get something more comfortable, most likely. I don't forsee this truck exceeding a 100 mile radius from home, maybe ever.

I got under it this weekend to assess the trailer wiring situation (I don't see anything in place, yet) and noticed a u-bolt had broken on the rearend (must have happened on the drive home as that is the only drive I made in it and I'm pretty sure I would have noticed it upon inspection). That'll get fixed within the week.

Re: '83 Dually Standard Cab, my latest acquisition

The main problem with the running boards is that they were mounted/bolted to rust...and that rust has now lost its structural integrity. At least on the driver side. I'm hot and cold on them (the running boards), frankly...but I'd just as soon not shed one while driving down the road...or have someone step on one and hurt themselves when it comes off...

As a K30 owner, I like that truck you picked up

Drop a 6.5 turbo diesel in it...

Re: '83 Dually Standard Cab, my latest acquisition

I'm not ready to try a diesel Chevy again yet. I had one and it burned me out on them for a while. (I'm a cheapskate and have a problem with the high potential for failure on a very expensive injection pump...that's the biggest thing...)

I wish mine were a K model! Well...I've got a SRW 4x4 for fun in the back 40 (posted here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=492888)

Thanks for the comments!

Re: '83 Dually Standard Cab, my latest acquisition

I traded this one this past summer...so I no longer have it. I'm on the lookout for an older shortbed, however.

I've got a line on one that might work out...we'll see.

Thanks,
Clem
