My IAT's are pretty good so far, I'm more concerned with air flow. When I was building my CAI, I picked a smaller filter (90 in^2 filtered area) and the engine did not like it all. I had been tuning with a fitler that had 130 in^2 of filtered area...

It looks like Rob is running SD tune I don't see a MAF. If this is the case do you all think changing the air filter and charge tube around will change his tune? I guess If you are SD tuned I don't think it will change but I am not sure.
Especially with the blower. just my nickle on that.

I remember some of the cummins diesels cold air intakes having a scoop that attaches under the bumper to bring in the outside cooler air. Anyone ever tried modifying one of those? This isn't something I'm looking forward to doing on my 65.

Thanks Rob, I missed that as it was hidden...in plain site. Anyway it looks like you have it in a good spot. I know when I was working on mine it was giving me fits because of some extra bends that messed with the air flow. I ended up going to a SD tune.

Ebay 5.3 filter for now.
It'll be turbo'd eventually so no sense going crazy with it just yet. May not be the best air but it runs just fine. DON'T try to run the filter-MAF-TB right next to one another with a short filter. I did it. Looks fine, but doesn't work well. Learn from my mistake.

I would run a tube or two to your cowl area since its a pressure zone and I think Spectre has an air filter in a tube if you don't have room for a regular one.
Rob, just cut that whole piece out instead of just adding a few holes. The more air you can feed it the better. The turbo guys who race at the track can get away with no air cleaner because the track is clean air but on the street we have dust, dirt, rocks, bugs and everything else. Running on the street without an air filter is just asking to suck something into your impeller blades. If anyone does add a turbo be sure the air filters are turbo approved because a lot of them aren't.

I hope the whole front of that box is cut out even the radiator support. You need to get the front of it full of air. Does the hood seal the top part off? I would cut the 4" hole like I did and have it sealed at the top.

Yeah he's mentioned a few times he has a lid for the box and plans to cut holes in the rad support. I don't think its a bad setup at all.
I plan to fab up some sheet metal to go behind the grille on my 68 to direct air away from the dead zones between the grille and core support. Might not be a bad idea to do the same thing, but direct some of that air towards your intake instead of through the radiator.

I wonder if placing a peice of sheet metal down the front of the support beside the opening would have any effect on it. Make like a box for that whole side of the radiator support. Hmmmm very interesting! I will have to ponder this for a while.

I talked about it a bit on the thread i started involving a belly pan. I think the air behind the grille is an easy spot to clean up with some sheet metal. Cover up the top so the air doesn't tumble upward under the hood, and then pieces on each side to funnel either into the rad or potentially your intake, instead of it being dead air. Once its a bit warmer here that's at the top of my to-do list.

I have the top in place. It's not solid but it does direct just about all the air into the radiator.
