wiring issues

Believe I have looked around but im at a standstill on my rewire. I ordered a ez wire 21 circuit harness. Person before me had already ripped out sections of the wiring so it was hard to just pull and replace. Here are a few things im having trouble with. A diagram of the wiring coming out of the steering column would be awesome. On the igntion do I just need to splice into the old wiring that on the clip because my kit definitely doesnt have the clip that fits if so what splices to what. Ill stop here and see what responses I get and go from there. Sorrt if this is up somewhere else I just couldnt seem to locate it. Heres some pictures

Re: wiring issues

Might start with the basic vehicle wiring scematics in the factory service manual. They can be found in section 12.

Re: wiring issues

The connectors you have in your hand in photos 2 and 3 look like ignition switch connectors for a later model with lock steering..

Or you could check this out:

Be sure and skim through the whole thread if you have time. A lot of individual components are discussed in the other posts.

No, for your ign (& maybe the column too, if not they make an adapter for it) you can just take the connector/wire out of the white plug & push them in your original plug. Cause the connectors are the same size, just plug style is different!
Just take a very small flat blade screwdriver & insert it into the plug to push down on the little tab that holds it into the connector.

Most diagrams and schematics will have a legend with this info but what you are asking is pretty universal for wiring. The number designates the gage of the wire aka the diameter in inches and the letters are the color of the insulation. I.E.
20 dbl=20 gage dark blue, 16brn = 16 gage brown etc. Here is a wiring diagram with more examples.

Wire gages are in many charts in inch sizes as well as metric.

Re: wiring issues

First off I have to chastise you for not mentioning what year truck you have.

The green and brown wires off the ignition switch are for the temperature and brake warning lights in the idiot light dash. They are run to the ignition switch so that when the ignition switch is turned to the start position it grounds these two wires and turns on the lights to check the bulbs..

There should be two wires connected to the ACC on the ignition switch. One is the 12 gauge Accessory brown wire that goes to the fuse panel, and the smaller one is the brown/white stripe wire that goes to the inside of the bulkhead connector. It is a resistor wire for the alternator exciter wire, that comes out the other side of the bulkhead connector as a 16 gauge brown wire, that goes to the no. 4 terminal on the external voltage regulator. The regulator connects it to the alternator when the ignition key is turned on, by the white wire on the no. 2 terminal on the regulator.

You should have these wires on the headlight switch.

Red wire for power to the headlights.
Light blue wire for power from the red wire to the dimmer switch.
Orange wire for power to the brown wires to the tail lights .
Green wire for power to the fuse panel to power the gray dash light wires.
White wire for a ground wire to the dome light.

The arrows show the two, brown and brown/white wires.

At the bottom is the headlight switch.

This diagram shows the fuse panel and the green wire that comes from the head light switch. Also the 12 gauge brown ACC wire and over to the left is the bulkhead connector with the resistance wire ( brown with white stripe ) connected with the brown wire from the idiot light if you have one.
