rebuilt 700r4 doesnt shift
i just had my 700r4 rebuilt for my 4x4 suburban, spent all day installing it and now it wont shift into 2nd regularly, it shifted to 2nd twice and i gave up on it. initially i lost reverse and it wouldnt shift to 2nd at all. i was told i might have some trash from the oil cooler which i must admit i brain cramped and forgot to flush. any ideas, im not looking forward to pulling this tranny again.

You shouldn't need to pull the tranny to fix the not shifting part. Some things to check. Number 1 check your TV cable but not likely since you said it worked at least one time. Second check the boost valve which is in the oil pump, sometimes they appear to be in all the way but really arn't, you can get to it by dropping the pan. One other possibility is that the 2-4 servo was not enagaged in the power band properly, but that would require pulling the transmission and pulling the oil pump. But if you did get trash in your valve body just drop the oil pan and drop the valve body and pull it apart and take it to a shop to have it disassembled, cleaned and put back together. Or you could have a shop drop the valve body, theres a few checkballs, so if you do it yourself make sure you can find out where they go. If you drop just the valve body then most of the time they will stay in their respective locations unless you turn the body up-side down.

thanks
destructo thanks for the reply. after a lot of cussing and scratching i realized that i needed to stop and look , and what did i see ? but that the tv cable i bought brand new was a cheap piece of crap, and had pulled completely through the rachet section. went to the local gm dealer and bought a tv cable from them , put it on in 10 mins and voila it shifts great. and was cheaper than the parts store brand . once again thanks.....
