A57 auxiliary seat option

Here is a pic of a spid in a '79 2wd blazer I looked at a few years ago. I did not buy the truck, but I was going through old pics on my computer and I saw this one with the a57 code. I remember it having bucket seats, but I thought that the code for those was a50. Has anyone got this code listed on their spid?

Re: A57 auxiliary seat option

A57 = passenger seat.
It was an option as was the rear seat on base models. As the truck was ordered with certain packages like Cheyenne or Sierra , the seat was installed and it was listed A57 on SPID. Only the driver's seat was standard equipment. Duh!
Blazer & Jimmy only came with buckets unlike pickups where either could be ordered.
That's why A50 buckets don't appear on the SPID.
Not sure when it stopped being an option though.
I'll dig up one of my old ones in a few but check out this. Look at the seating in lower left. Explains it.

Re: A57 auxiliary seat option

Were the bench seats an extra for the cheyenne package then or just not available (which means someone put em in mine after the fact).

Very interesting brochures. I never knew the passenger seat was an option at one point. But check out the two interior pictures, neither have AC.

Re: A57 auxiliary seat option

I've heard in the past that there was a bench seat option for base K5 but I highly doubt it. I have yet to see an option for it in all my factory paper work or 30 yrs of screwing around with Blazers.
Another thing is the front seat belts are Blazer/Jimmy only. Pickup, Sub, vans
are all different.
There is no part number listed anywhere for LH or RH K5 bench or a center belt for K5 bench seat.
So no, somebody put in the bench in your truck esp with Cheyenne trim option. RPO Z84 (Cheyenne) option trigged front buckets and center console however rear seat was still optional. I am curious to see the seat belts in your truck and how they did it.

Another strange but true: In base truck you could order a back seat without a passenger front as both were individual options!

Read thru here to page 4. Explains seating for '76 model.

Just reading this again, were you talking about the rear seat or the front?

A pair of buckets became standard around '79-'80 I think. However the rear seat was optional all the way to '91.

Re: A57 auxiliary seat option

The bench just has lap belts bolted to the floor where the seat is bolted. Ditto back bench seats and belts. Need to get some bucket seats and a console but the interior is way down the list of projects.

Yeah the rears are bolted like that from factory before the fold and flip design but front bench is for sure something somebody stuck in there.

Nice job. '79 looks like it could be the cut off year.
