There are a lot of guys here in the North Texas area that have started doing that. They wear the clothing and dress the part that was popular back in the 50's. There were a ton of them at the last car show, being that the theme of it was the 50's.

im a die hard primer lover and have been since ive been into cars....if ya scratch it, who cares. fog on some more. price? cant beat it. and it does have that 50's rod look...which ive always loved vintage styled hot rods.

i do get annoyed when people do it just b/c its the "in" thing...i always thought it was cool that the guys w/ projects in primer still show up to cruises and shows b/c they just dont care.

VEEERY true! Nicole Ritchie was sporting a Von Dutch hat and shirt I believe on the latest episode of "The Simple Life"...made me want to puke!

Another thing that is getting too played out...is all the WCC stuff people are wearing and sticking on their cars. I bet 1/3 of them don't even own a bike, the other 1/3 don't even know what WCC is, and the last 1/3 might own a bike or know what WCC is or does.

Sorry to go off topic. The other day me and a friend were talking about that. We asked a guy who workes at a cloth place that sells von dutch why they were so expensive. We also asked them what they were. All he said was I dont know who he was, it's just that celbs like Brittany and Justin wear them so they cost more money.

But on topic. Is it a bad idea to primer a truck and leave it for a while. My dad said it will rust and I heard it is hard to clean stuff off it. My friends dad's old 60 chevy is primered and he washed it at a car wash like it's a paint job and his has a little surface rust. I wouldn't clean it with car wash or anything, but will little rain(arizona) rust it?

Well... on topic I think Black Primer and chrome is the most badazz combo out there. For sure ratrod style!

And off topic... I think that WCC kinda sold out and now all the goddang teenie boppers wear it to be hardcore. It really bugs me, they arent into Choppers or even the custom scene at all, they just wear it because its in.

Yeah we were walking through the Saks Fifth Ave at our local mal and the mesh Dutch hats were $43 and the jeans were $150.

Epoxy primer is NOT weatherproof...you will need a sealer over it to make it weatherproof. All primers are basically like a sponge...they all absorb water to some extent.

ChevyGuyBC, I have no problem when people advertise things they like, I just ask they know what the heck it is they're advertising. For example, I have all sorts of old rod shirts and stuff...but I know where each of them originates and what they are about...I don't wear them just cause they are "cool" and this and that person wears them...so should I. Try being a leader and being creative, don't be a follower or a poser...that is my point.

BTW - WCC is West Coast Choppers (Jesse James bikes).

BTW again, don't put words in my mouth...and quit shootin off yours too. Your comment directed towards me was slightly unkind...I, as other members, dont put up with that stuff.

Big I couldnt agree with you more.
chevyguy...you can wear what you want I guess....but looks pretty lame to some....seen a guy on a jap cruiser the other day wearing WCC shirt..looks so dumb...but hey...if he thinks its cool, go for it.
It would be as dumb as me sportin a NO FEAR sticker, like so many were doin a few years ago.....nobody knew what it is, but they had the sticker.

Lets play nice Y'all!

In regards to primer, as Jeff said even Epoxy primer is porous and will allow moisture to soak through. Primers don't have any UV protection added either, so they will chalk up.

If you want "the look" you should prime it with a good quality primer, then use a flattening agent in single stage top coat for a flat finish.

There are also satin finish paints available as well...

Here's a thread that discusses ways to get the primered look-Rat Rod

I am a BIG von dutch fan from way back, but basicly wont admit it anymore with all the "Von Dutch" pasted all over everything these days. It will wear off like everything else.

Im going for the flat black primer on my project simply because its about 3 different colors right now & I want it one color. I dont have the cash to paint yet & have no clue what color I want it yet anyway...corn
