Break Line conversion - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have converted my '69 to Disc breaks and have also installed new SS break lines. The new ones go on the out side if the frame on the drivers side. Does anyone have a picture showing this routing? Are there any clips that secure the lines here. The rest of the instal went pretty much as expected.

Any help would be appreciated.

i don't know what year brake lines you have but all the ones i've seen run inside the frame

From the master cylinder they go to the inside of the frame, drivers side and run across the back of the cross member under the oil pan. The lines going to the rear brakes run along the inside frame rail on the passenger side.

From the factory they run on the inside of the frame rail.

If you have tight clearance to your exhaust you can route them to the outside just behind the upper control arm. I'm actually doing the same thing in the next couple days. The brake line is just way too close to my manifold. Right now I have it wrapped in heat shield. But that's only temporary. Since that routing isn't factory you will have to buy some clamps and drill some holes in the frame. Or you could use a bulkhead tee and mount that though the lower part of the frame rail. That's how I'm going to do it.

My original 70 (drum) brake lines run on the outside of the frame. I have seen several that do. I won't be back at work till January so I can't post a pic (Santa did not think to buy me a card reader so I can download pictures at home). What lines did you order? I know some vendors offer disc brake conversion lines for the front portion. On factory disc brake trucks (71/72) the lines run to the front of the crossmember and on the drum brake trucks they run to the backside of the crossmember. Sorry I can't be more help.

I am using Inline Tube '71-'72 lines. They definately cannot install on the inside. Both the front and rear lines come from the master cylander and travcel down the outside. They wrap around the braket that holds the Top A-arm to the frame and to the rear of the cross member. There are a couple of clips on the cross member for both front and rear lines, but nothing before that point.
