Installing '66 IFS on '62 frame questions
Hi everyone,
Got a few questions for you about swapping a 6 lug '66 IFS onto a '6 lug '62 truck. The truck in question is a '62 short bed, and Dad wants to lower it a little bit more than with the torsion front end, plus parts are cheaper for the '66 frontend. He doesn't want disc, only installing a dual master on firewall with drums. It's basically a weekend driver, and since the SBC went south a few weeks back. He wants me to start on it. Is it a straight forward bolt in? Any problems I might run into? I got all the steering linkage, idler arm, steering box, even factory sway bar too. Also he's got a 250 inline 6 out of a '73 c10 he wants me to drop in. Has manual clutch linkage, no slave cylinder. Anything special/specific to the inline that I might need? Many thanks |

Re: Installing '66 IFS on '62 frame questions
The '62 frame is wider. Why not just put drop spindles? I bought a PorterBuilt unit to put in. Or bag the torsion bar clip.

Re: Installing '66 IFS on '62 frame questions
The bushings/ball joints are also shot on torsion IFS, plus replacing the bushings/ ball joints are way cheaper to replace on a coil IFS. Mainly my concerns are will the newer IFS work fine with the '62 steering box, will I have to realign the idler arm, relocate mounts. I know the frame rails are a little taller than the newer frames. No worries on the frame, just everything else in relation with the newer IFS working properly on '62 frame. No bags on this truck, running coils at all corners.
Many thanks |
