driveshafts?
doing the 5.3 swap into a 84 k10, i was wondering about the driveshafts, will the old driveshafts work? I'm using the 4l60 tranny with the adapter for my 208 transfer case, i forgot to measure the old tranny before i got rid of it, and understand that the new motor may be in a different place than the prior engine, just curious if any of you other guys that did a similar swap ran into the same issue

Re: driveshafts?
We were able to get the engine and tranny bolted back in a place that allowed the original placement of the transfer case to remain the same. If you can do that, you should be fine with the current shafts...

Re: driveshafts?
Cool, I have another thread in the other side in the forum about if I should drop the motor in before I get the harness back...once I figure that out I'll be able to get started again

Re: driveshafts?
I usually advise against setting up a swap just to keep the same DS. Place the engine where it needs to go in the cradle, make the trans xmember position, then worry about the driveshaft.
Depending what tranny your coming from, the o/d tranny might be longer. You don't want to have to put your engine 3" forward just to keep the same DS. They arent' that expensive, and its not a bad idea to get a better one made for that matter. The yolk is also a factor in length, and if it needs to be changed you might as well just have a shaft made. That my humble opinion. *scratch that, nothing I do is humble, but its my opinion.

Re: driveshafts?
Yeah, if we'd had issues with engine placement it wouldn't be a big deal to change it. We have to have at least one shaft built anyway for other reasons. It was nice to not have to cut a new hole in the floor for the tcase shifter...
