Who makes a gas cap for a 72 C10?

I've tried all the parts houses in town trying to find a gas cap for my 72 GMC 1500 with no luck. Bought a Stant 10742 which was suppose to fit, but it does not.

Can any of you share a proper GM, Stant, etc cap number for a 72?

Thanks,

I bought a lockable from Advanced Auto back in 2004 and it works great. The rubber gasket is cracked though but I don't think I lost a drop of fuel in the 7 years I let it sit in my garage!

Rock Auto has a bunch of gas caps listed for 72, I bought one and it fit perfectly. Pretty cheap, too.

Re: Who makes a gas cap for a 72 C10?

Is the issue you're having the cap not fitting tightly and spilling gas every time you go around a right turn?

I had the same problem. I bought a piece of cork gasket material and made an additional ring to put on the underside of the cap. I took the rubber gasket off, used it for a template, then put the cork gasket on first, with the rubber gasket on top. Problem solved.

Yes. The caps I've tried, including the one that came on the truck fit loosely. Seems like theres a very small sweet spot that the cap will grip. If I can't find a cap I'll give this a try. Thanks,

Katrina, I've seen these but one of the reference caps is a Stant 10742 which I have and it doesn't even come close to fitting.

Maybe it's the neck that has worn out? That's my issue anyway. I've tried most after market caps and two NOS caps and they are all lose.

I will look up the part number of the one I bought and let you know. It is a Stant, I believe, and fit great.
