anyone paint a pin strip instead of moldings on two tone paint?

Does anyone have a picture of a blazer with a painted pin strip instead of upper moldings on a blazer? I want a two tone paint job (burnt orange and white) but rather than drilling holes for an upper molding I thought I would just have one painted on in silver. I have been trying to think how this would look but my imagination is not the best.

I haven't seen this done but you could probably make use of adhesive molding clips (similar to that for 71-72 pickups) rather than drilling holes for the upper trim. Just an FYI- the upper body paint junction does not parallel the bedside on pickups but has a gradual taper toward the rear.

I appreciate the reply. It seems from my searching that many people who used the adhesive clips were unhappy with the end results, and even ones done well still have exposed screws and joints in the rear quarter panels. im trying to weight that look against painting one on.

Yes the repro adhesive I used on my K10 displaced the trim from the body to where you can see daylight. I went with screw type upper and lower molding clips on my K20 for this reason. One member actually glued super strong magnets to the clips, which then attach to the body and apparently allow for removal for waxing. Good luck.

I've also seen several painted in the special two-tone style found on pickups and suburbans with white below the lower body molding. Looks really good on a blue or dark green Blazer with a white top.

I tried the adhesive too and was unhappy there just isn't a good fit or they end up getting dirty under them and pealing.

This was an article from a couple years ago. I think this would be hard to do, and IMO this only looks good from the side. I would paint a thin stripe or two in between 2 tone for definition.... http://www.sporttruck.com/techarticl.../photo_05.html

I have looked and looked for a cheaper alternative to the side body molding and I don't think anything exists. I did see a truck at Cruzin the Coast that looked pretty decent..., this guy painted a 5" black stripe on the lower sides and then put wide dual silver/chrome pin stripe along the top and bottom. It was awesome. He did the same for the upper molding by painting a narrower black stripe and adding pin stripe. He had just painted the truck and didn't want to drill holes in the body. I'm toying with the idea myself.

If you look at late 80's k/5's, they had a 2-3 stripe that acted as a paint separater, My neighbor had a 86 that was blue/dark blue with this set-up.

And I think painted faux molding looks "too faux"
