Rochester VS. Edelbrock carb

Well, I've had an Edelbrock 1406 electric choke carb for the last three years. The problem is that the secondaries are leaking gas now. I have always had a hard time starting the Blazer after a long drive. If I turn it off and back on it's ok, but if I let it sit for 10-15 minutes it is hell to start it up again. When it does start, it runs rough and smells like gas. I am considering going with a Rochester. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem with the Edelbrock. How do you guys like the Rochester?

I took the Edelbrock off my Blazer and gave it away.

In my opinion, no carb comes close to the Quadrajet for reliable performance and good economy.

I had similar problems with a 1406. I know there has been numerous threads on this. I recently bought a jet performance Stage 1 quadrajet and put it on my blazer and love it. I have always had great luck with quadrajets.

Are Quadra jets decent for steep hills and rock crawling in high elevation, wondering cause I in Colorado where the terrain is tough. I have and edlebrock 1406 myself on my 72 k5 and its a POS I always get flooded or stalled when im four wheeling or on steep angles.

Put a fuel regulator on it and adjust it to 5psi.

Sound like a classic "heat soak" situation. After the 15 minute set time, the carb soaks up the engine heat, expanding the gas untill it floods the carb. I had the same problem. I added a heat shield under the carb (the thin sheet of aluminum style) and never had the problem again. You could also try lowering your floats a tad. A lot cheaper than buying another carb! A q-jet is a lot less prone to this with the float bowl being in the middle of the carb, as opposed to the outer edges like the edelbrock.

The Quadrajet is among the best carbs for off-roading.

Had similar issues with a 1406. Dumped it and went with a Jet Performance Q-jet. Loved the Q-jet. For off-roading, the fuel pressure can be dialed down a bit, and the floats can be lowered a bit to reduce flooding potential.

I looked at the Jet Q-jets and there is an option for a divorced choke. What is that?

Sounds like you need to tune up your carb. You can buy the kit online or at orielly's. I run both the quadrajet and the Edelbrock and I think the edelbrock is easier to work on.

Old style choke system. Has a thermo coil spring and rod that hooks to your carb. Mounts in a well on your intake manifold just beside the carb on the passenger side. Works off of heat and a bimetalic spring. As the engine heats up the choke opens when it cools down the choke closes.

took off my edelbrock it leaked never could get it right threw it away and got a quick fuel carburetor its made by holley runs so much better

Well for the cost doing a fuel pressure regulator at 5psi is fare, the cost for a Rochester varies from 100-550 dollars. Any body ever try an affordable efi/tbi exchange?
