'49 Ford & '71 Buick ragtop
my dad has a couple old neat cars we have been slowly fixing up.
unfortunatly circumstances have changed & he is selling them. thought i would show them before they are gone. his '49 is a cream puff with only 44600 miles, it's not 144 thousand or 244 thousand. Ex-government car. the man he got it from had just gone thru the 239 flathead, & it runs like a charm, with a very nice sound to it! we replaced the brakes, exhaust, & shocks & went threw all the mechanicals. also re-did the seats & put a new carpet & headliner & trunk mat in it. it was orig. gunmetal grey, but dad went green instead. the car was so clean, we have never taken it apart at all, it's still mostly orig, 6-volt, 3 on the tree, manual everything! all the chrome is there & is in excellent shape with NO pitting. we almost had it done, just had to clean & detail under the hood & find a proper spare for it. it's too bad, i enjoyed working on this old car-it has been a learning experiance |

Re: '49 Ford & '71 Buick ragtop
I had a friend with a '49 in high school (so long ago we were worried about falling off the edge of the earth).
I think you've got one of the few cars that I would not "mess" with, maybe exhaust. Nothing sounds like a flathead. Hmmm, a five speed would be nice too |

Re: '49 Ford & '71 Buick ragtop
and here is his other project, funny it's his & i do 98% of the work on this one.
never got very far on this one. it needs a total restoration, but all i did so far was get it safetyed, gas tank & straps, engine mounts, rust hole in rear pass floor, & had to get the power windows working. dont see what the big deal was about not having working windows, the back one would not stop you from climbing out! i was sorta kinda hoping i could have snagged this one when it was done. '71 buick lesabre rag with a factory 455 auto. it's a BOAT!, but a boat that can fry them tires! and it is so frikin SWEET on the hiway. i have looked around & it seems buick made only 1800 or so of these luxo- barges, a little bit rare. yup, sure would like to have seen it in my driveway, rough as it is |

and it's parked on uneven ground, when it's on flat ground, it has a ever so slight rake to it just to throwing you right back to the '50's |
