im going to convert over to discs and i have 6 lug but the rotors i have are 5 lug. can i buy the 6 lug rotors from an auto parts store or does it have to be from a catalog/vendor?

How about changing your rear axles so you have 5 lug all around? You can get cooler rims for 5 lug.
Where did you get the rotors you have? A donor front end? Early Classic, Classic Performance (probably lots of others offer 6 lug rotors). good luck, scott

dinnut, There isn't any stock aplication 6 lug rotors that will bolt onto your 71-72 front spindles. These are a specialty itom only. You can take your 5 lug rotors have the holes filled and then redrilled for 6 lug pattern though. That would be my only suggestion though. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

It would be nice if someone made a replacement spindle so we could use off the shelf rotors (late Chev). Especially for those of us who change pads when they start to grind.

You can buy the spindles from Early Classic Enterprises, with either a stock height or a 2.5 inch drop. Then, you can use the stock GM 5-lug rotor or the ECE 6-lug rotor. It is new, not redrilled. Not that there is anything wrong with a redrilled rotor, IF it is done correctly. ECE stuff uses GM 1/2-ton truck brake components.....all factory stuff. Their spindles are custom manufactured, with a lifetime warranty and use OEM tie rod ends, ball joints, etc.
Not to knock WES, at all. He's a good guy just trying to give you some options. But, you seem to be set on having a 6-lug disc on your 71-72 body, so that's my suggestion on how you can have it your way....short of going to Burger King, that is. Before I knew about Wes, I had already bought and installed the ECE components on my '69. This is why I can tell you about what they have.

I stayed with the 6-lug because I already had a set of wheels, too. I also know that to the un-initiated, a set of disc brakes on any given vehicle ain't no biggee. Therefore, it just makes me feel good knowing that if someone is knowledgeable enough to notice, yes, I do have disc brakes on my '69. No, they didn't come on it. It has been converted.
Try ECE for the rotors. If your spindles are from a '71-72, there should be absolutely no problem putting their rotors on and then you'd have 6-lug without redrilling yours, plus, you'd have new rotors that will last for many years. But, whatever floats your boat.

remember also that w/ the tahoe's and denali's,etc... and all them suv's that are out there, the after-market has seriously stepped up the availability of cool looking 6 lug rims. so 5 luggers don't have such a monoply on the cool rims anymore!!

I have nothing against 6 lug rims - I have 6 lug rallyes. I was just offering an option. What did your discs come off of? Classic Performance has rotors to fit on stock spindles, but I think they are 5 on 4-3/4 bolt pattern. Check them out, they may have the magic spindle for you www.classicperform.com

backspace
Hard to find them with the correct 4-1/2" backspace. I wanted Torque Thrust IIs, but I was told they wouldn't work, so I powder coated my ralleys and bought new rings and caps.
