I am looking at the filter for my tranny does the metal go up or down down being toward ground?
Or is this a stupid question?

The metal goes up, with a gasket between it and the valve body. Filter media goes toward the bottom of the pan. Look at the instruction sheet that come with the new filter. It will show you how it's supposed to look.
Remember, the only stupid question is the question never asked. You don't have to be afraid of asking any question you have in here. We all had to learn sometime. We weren't born knowing what we know. Besides, how does anyone learn anything without asking questions?

I am now installing new deep tranny pan. It has a spacer a gasket for each side of spacer amd filter. But it will not mount metal up? The bolts they sent are not long enough seems it should go metal down does this sound wrong.

I had a transmission filtre that was made with a screen-type material, and the screen side went toward the case (or "up") and the metal side went toward the pan (or "down").
I don't remember the brand of filtre, though -- sorry. The next time I replaced the filtre, I bought the Dacron one (the sort of yellow-ish felt/fabric looking one), and it was installed with the filtre media "down" and the metal "up." Were there instructions with the filtre? DJS |

The filter mesh part goes towards the valve body .. basically just put the hole onto the hole on the valve body Dont quote me but there shouldnt be any way to put it on backwards.
