454 seems to high
I got some factory bbc stands but my engine seems to be too high in the front.i haven't fixed my crossmember for the th400 but I cant jack it up any higher in the back due to the transmission hitting the body.does the motor need to be level?

Doesn't seem to be that high. If i recall, they don't sit level. Here is a picture of my 402/700R4, obviously the 700R4 is not the same length, but close. I'm sure it's fine.

Mines not level either. Has a slight tilt to the firewall.

Make the carb mount level. Adjust it at the tranny mount. They normally tilt back. About 3 degrees downward.

Mine ended up at around 4 1/2 degrees. I will adjust the pinion to make it work

How tired are your body mounts ?
I put a 454 and TH400 in my shortbed a few years ago (low hump cab) using those same factory mounts you're using. The trans hit the body until I swapped the old saggy cab mount biscuits for new ones. Then it cleared plenty. It goes without saying that you have the wrong trans crossmember and mount in there currently. I assume that's what you're leading to when you say you havent been able to do that part yet.

I assume that's what you're leading to when you say you havent been able to do that part yet.[/QUOTE I haven't checked the body mounts.I found a post where someone used a crossmember out of a 84 suburban an that's what I was trying since I had one available.it looks like I'll be fabricating my own.I was concerned about the engine angle because the transmission can't come up unless it's tired body mounts like you said. |
