Bed Replacement Question

Hey Fellas, After wearing out the original bed of my '84 3/4 ton, I replaced it with one off of a '75 half ton. Having used it for the last few months it is quite apparent that the one I just put on is not as stout as the one I wore out. Were the '70's models a thinner gauged metal, or did you get a better body with a 3/4 ton? Any insights?

Re: Bed Replacement Question

No insights on that? Maybe I am mistaken. Either way, I will put a spray in liner and build an angle iron frame to stiffen it up. Any other ideas?

Re: Bed Replacement Question

RR

Should be the same metal, but if the bed has replacement panels or floors, the replacment metal could be thinner.

The only significant changes that I can recall are the fuel cap vs door and tailgates.

Re: Bed Replacement Question

That seems to be the consensus from all the people I am talking to. Thanks.

Re: Bed Replacement Question

Same bed was used on all models (ie, a 1/2 ton got the same bed as a 1 ton).

By the way - on the 2014 and beyond K2XX pickup box, there is a HD box released for 3/4 ton and 1 ton. It gets a couple additional braces under the rear sills and some doublers at the attaching points.
