17" front 15" rear steelie request

Hi all,

I'm trying to see if I should get a staggered rim setup. If you've seen my build thread you can see it's slightly power oriented now. I have 15x10" rear rims with drag radials in the rear. I'm considering running a 13" front brake rotor now which would necessitate at least a 17" rim. So I'm wondering what that might look like.

Anyone have some pics, steelies or not, of a 17" front rim with a 15" rear (with a big fat wide rear tire preferably) . I'm trying to see if I should do this or jump the rear to 16" in the future for a 17" front rim.

Thanks!

Alex

I think it will look a little goofy. Bigger in back smaller in the front.

I think if you get the wheel choice and suspension right, its a cool look. I've seen it on a few 4th gen fbodies over on tech, but never on anything else. I'll see if I can find a pic.

Here's just a few pics I found quick over on tech. I think it could work on these trucks, just needs to be right.

It's definitely hit or miss on when it looks good. I personally wouldn't ever have a 2" difference, I'd switch to a 16 on the back and run 17 on the front. I've seen a few cars done this way that kept the white "hoosier" lettering on the rear tires and that looked pretty good.

I went with 18x9.5 rear with 295/45/18 Nitto 555. It has two other race versions. Also Hoosiers and Mickey Thompson have drags in 18. 555R drag dot and 555RII road track. Then dot drag NT05. Size 285,305,335. 26 to 28.57 tall.

I say 18s to match set them.

Very interesting you have brought this idea up. I have thought about this for a while. If you look at the profile of these trucks and their wheel openings, the front one appears larger because it's body line opening is higher than the rear. I really think that a 1" larger wheel in the front would look awesome and balanced.

Re: 17" front 15" rear steelie request

Thanks for the pics from Tech. That's kinda where I got the idea.. and some magazines. One of the reasons I'm even doing this is that I have 15x10 steelies that I plan to run around town with drag radials already... If I could find a new home for my rear rim set up all would be well and I could go ahead and buy new 16x10 rear rims and drag radials.. Might be time to get an account to sell some stuff on here and call it good. Thanks for the pics too. Keep postin some pics if you find some good ones. Maybe others have considered this.

LVPhotos - Nice Wheels!

What brand are they? And did you do 18's in front as well? I have a 65 longbed Stepside I will be bagging the front on, so you got any pix of the front bagged?

Re: 17" front 15" rear steelie request

I guess for me it needs the 2" difference. I think just 1" would just look off and not intentional. But most of why I think it doesn't look bad is from having a set of nice 17" wheels and then a pair of 15's with sticky tires for race day, or the weekend you're looking for fun haha. I would just buy a pair of matching 15's to go with your full set of 17 or 18's. Just swap them when you're needing better traction.

Just ran across this thread on tech. Didn't know if you had seen it yet or not. A lot of good looking setups.
