Clutch rod 1971 K10
Hello everyone. I have a 1971 K10 with the SM465 Trans. I need a lower clutch rod so I ordered part number 32-6113 from LMC Truck. It was listed as 2wd. I got it but it is about 4" shorted than the old one. Is there really a difference between the two? Why? different bellhousing or something?
I posted a WTB in that section if anyone has one. Thanks. PS: Pics to come of the new truck soon.

I know the engines in the K series are in the back position. They sit back closer to the firewall than the C series. But the z-bar for the manual clutch stays in the same position resulting in a longer rod. I actually fabricated one because I ran into your same problem. Good luck, Bruce

Thanks for the info. I never knew the engine placement was different.
Does anyone know if anyone is making the longer lower 4x4 clutch rods?

I had to go the fab route, too. I bought a '73-'89 lower clutch rod from the dealership, which is even shorter than the '67-'72, but is the right diameter and threading. The shop cut both rods at a 45* angle and tacked them together, then slipped a section of old 9mm gun barrel over the splice and welded that on.
'71 GMC Jimmy K/1500, w/350 V8, SM465/NP203.

I took two of the shorter rods. Measured the needed length, then cut the two rods to match that length. One end was the z-bar side and the other one was the clutch end. Using the two rods to make one. I then used a redi-rod union nut that was the next size smaller than the diameter of the rods. I used a drill press to drill the threads out of the union nut. Now the inside diameter of the nut matched the rod, I slipped each partial rod into the nut. One from one end, one from the other end, and had them meet in the middle. Clamped them in place and welded together. Now I have a hex nut welded in the middle to hold with a wrench when I need to adjust/loosen the nut and jamb nut. Good luck, Bruce
