Need a bigger alternator
I need a 100 amp alternator, I was wondering if I can use a alternator from a later 70s or even 80s truck because some of the 454 models had bigger alternator. I currently have a 60 amp and it doesn't keep up with my electric fans. My truck has a 402 big block. Do the newer model alternators bolt the same way my does? I thought I've seen this before on this forum.

Re: Need a bigger alternator
Powermaster made me a 225amp alternator for my LS project. They can probably provide you with what you need.

Re: Need a bigger alternator
I went straight from the stock, externally regulated alternator to a CS144 (from a 1994 Chevy Caprice with the police package). It bolted into the same location without any modifications. I did have to modify the wiring a little, but that was it.

Re: Need a bigger alternator
I use a Powermaster 140 amp GM 12si style alt I got flebay a few years ago. In my truck I run two air compressors and a small amp. Alt. works great and I've had no issues in the past 2 years.

Re: Need a bigger alternator
Another vote for CS144. They last long and have good idle amperage, which is important for electric fans.

Re: Need a bigger alternator
Do they have a external regulator or internal regulator?
