Long shot or wishful thinking?

I had a seemingly crazy idea the other day..I have a '68 C10 with drums all the way around and was wondering if I could put stock rotors on a drum spindle? The conversions kits aren't particularly cheap and I don't need to lower it, I just want disc in the front for the safety factor, given how putrid people drive in the bay area.

Re: Long shot or wishful thinking?

Nope but you can use the 71-71 spindles or the 73-87 spindles and the ball joints for the same year spindles. Plenty out there in the boneyards.

Re: Long shot or wishful thinking?

You need more than junkyard spindles and ball joints if you want disk brakes up front. You also at the very least need a tie rod that matches your bone yard parts and a high bred adjuster sleeve. If your plans are to snag junk yard parts then grab the tie rods, center link, and every other part from the pitman arm to the right frame rail. Then you will be 5 lug on the front and 6 on the rear. That is unless you snag the rear end too. Of coarse you could always buy 6 lug rotors at about $159.00 so you can keep your 6 lug pattern front and rear. But now if you have the stock 6 lug wheels they will not work. The inside of the wheel hits on the caliper. So new or good used 4X4 6 lug wheels from a 71 or newer will have to be found. WES

Re: Long shot or wishful thinking?

Even if the spindle diameter and length matches the rotor bearings, There is nothing to mount the calipers to.
