I am not sure if John makes his own blanks or not, but if you go to his website http://www.drcamshafts.com/ and click on videos, he has a short video of a cam being ground.

That's picture brings back memories from when I was a kid (13 or 14) and my dad thought me how to grind valves. Our grinder was about twice as big mounted on a taller table but that image gave me a flash back.
