What year cluster will work in my 85 c10?
I'm assuming any 81-87 cluster with full gauges not idiot lights will work. Is that correct? I need 1 cause the PO hacked up mine.

On the other end, you could go back as far as 1978 in terms of electrical compatibility of the cluster connector (full-gauge type cluster). But the temperature gauge / sender resistance changed sometime in 1979. And go with a 1980+ cluster if you want the newer style font on the gauges. The only other concern would be if your truck has cruise control and/or electronic spark control. Those make use of a VSS (vehicle speed sensor) that's connected to the speedometer. The older (pre-83 or so) speedometers won't have that. And there were a couple of different buffer circuits used over the years (one with a 3-wire connector in a yellow plastic case and one with a 4-wire connector in a green plastic case). Depending on what's hacked up, you might be able to re-use the speedometer and/or VSS buffer from your existing cluster if necessary though. |

Re: What year cluster will work in my 85 c10?
late 80s may have a OD or 4 speed indicator
watch the cases too,the 78 speedo won't fit in the later cluster. it's the speedo cable clip , later it's on the case, early it's on the actual speedo late 80s has another digit in the mileage any chance it was idiot lights?(my 78 swap was) I ask cause they are wired quite differently . and not changeing the wires in the cluster plug will be a dead short. be sure to paint the inside too it helps brighten them up.

Re: What year cluster will work in my 85 c10?
I don't have cruise. The gauge cluster that came in the truck was cut where the volt meter was to add a temp gauge. I think they were thinking of making it a race truck. I'm assuming the original temp gauge quit or they wanted more accurate. Anyways the white plastic piece and the circuit piece is all tore up. Trying to find 1 local but most junkyards in this part of the country have crushed any of these trucks. Hoping to find 1 on Craigslist.

Re: What year cluster will work in my 85 c10?
I've got some cluster parts I could pass on to you. I have a case, and two of each gauge except a speedo.
See this thread: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=626127 I'm at a point where I can just give you what you need, because I want this stuff gone. You'd only have to pay shipping.
